Bereavement

If an employee suffers the loss of a family member, the employee will be entitled to five days per event of bereavement pay, including the day of the death and the day of the funeral. Each bereavement leave must be used within ninety (90) days of the event or forfeit any remaining time.

An employee may request up to 2 bereavement leaves within one school year. At the discretion of the Executive Director or his or her designee, the employee may be granted additional time without pay or may use PTO , if applicable, for additional paid leave. The employee is expected to notify their supervisor as soon as possible for the reason for and expected length of the employee’s absence.

An employee may be required to provide acceptable documentation of their relationship to the deceased, the date of death, and/or their attendance at the funeral within seven (7) days after returning to work. If documentation is requested and not provided by the deadline, the employee must use any available paid time off to be paid for the absence and may face disciplinary measures.
