Pursuant to New York State’s “continuation coverage” law, and Federal COBRA Launch employees and their qualified beneficiaries can choose to continue health insurance coverage (“COBRA”) for 36 months under the Launch health plan when a “qualifying event” would otherwise result in the loss of eligibility.
Some common qualifying events are resignation, termination of employment, or death of an employee; a reduction in an employee’s hours or leave of absence, divorce or legal separation and a dependent child no longer meeting eligibility requirements.
Under COBRA and NYS CoC, the employee or beneficiary must pay the full cost of coverage at Launch group rates plus an administration fee. Eligible employee will be provided written notice describing rights granted under COBRA when the employee becomes eligible for coverage under the Launch health insurance plan. The notice contains important information about the employee's rights and obligations. Please contact the Director of Finance if you have questions about COBRA.
